tonight al qamar writes a sonnet
by Zein Sa’dedin
wa the rivers in my house burn
alive they wave their hands salam
then goodbye barra al beit al bahr is
dead again wa hungry
tonight it is earth’s turn
to wrap around itself sweetwater
ebbs wa does little to nothing else
tonight the tide is infinitely
aware of me too
only i can tell the water when it’s time
to go home tonight i become mother-like
wa warm habeebati
tell me have you ever had anything
as delicious as sleep
