                                                                                                            half-breed bitch
 
                                                                                                when I sing I sing
                                                                                out of tune
                                                                                              I hoard verbs
                                                                                                            I
                                 pickpocket from other            
 
                                                  mouths            I
 
                                                                 fumble open    my mouth         
                                                                                            wait for mama
                                                                  to drop the 普通話 seed         
 
                                                                                                            mama Taiwan
 
                                                                   teach me

                                                                                       let go

Kathryn Hargett-Hsu 徐凯蒂 is an MFA candidate in poetry at Washington University in St. Louis. She is the recipient of fellowships from Kundiman, Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets, the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference, Belgrade Art Studio, and UAB.
