Angel's Heart Reasons with Her Dad

"I take my hat off whenever somebody say my Daddy's name."
                -August Wilson

I got your blood and do it better.
better. better. better.

Come home.

You, I own.
Here, own is the same as always.
All my everyday song is for you
that sputtering blanket of red, That hum
come home, come home
my most reckless flavor, You are
what my many mouths are shaped like.

You know she through with us both?

The way any exhausted bird
get tired of flight
but still belong to the sky.

I am a fist
       a fist.
always
I beat the dirt,
I beat her good     gracious.

Both my boat hands
the color of stop
won't ever.

Needed you since before
your first baby
know, I'll be your last

Baby, I kick up the dust. earth her breaking. the clay. her peace.
her palms in prayer to a God I made up.

Light house in a sea of blood
I'm bound.

Come
.

Maybe one day we leave her alone for good?
Build a house in the sea, so she can't get to us
Build a shack in a field with no magic
so she won't come looking.
